Robinson meets the natives

Chris Robinson of the Ottawa International Animation Festival attended a screening of animation from around here. He's working on a book about the indie animation scene in Canada, and also, a report on the Canadian animation industry. The screening was organized by Heather Harkins and enticed a few animators out despite the weather warnings.

MNM - The War Tapes

War Tapes played to a small turnout - about 60 people. Regrettable, given the topicality of the film.

Jannasch's Introduction To The Art Dept.

This Sunday had the pleasure of chaperoning Emmanuel Jannasch's Introduction To The Art Dept. workshop, part of the FILM5 program. It was, as it always is, "sold-out," with a few additional students beyond the FILM5-ers.

The most interesting moment to me was when Jannasch emphasized the importance of FILM5 to a student, indentifying it as the single most important point of access to the film world here. He pointed out that industry key personnel do watch the trainee program, as a means of identifying potential future crew.

After watching the program struggle through the last four years of major growth, it was a gratifying moment.
